Between Hard Rock and a Cool Place

Between Hard Rock and a Cool Place

On the way home from a business trip this past month I received a text from a guy named Bryson Roatch. You probably have never heard of Bryson, but if you are a fan of hard rock you may have heard of the group he represents, Asking Alexandria. It seems the band was on tour with Shinedown and Godsmack. They had a day to burn on the way from Brookings, SD to Billings, Mt. Bryson wanted to know if we would host the band the crew for a fun day at the park. I am always happy to show off our property and I let him know we would be excited to accommodate them.

If I said I knew it would be a great experience to host a hard rock band, I would be lying. I have had the opportunity to spend time around a few actors, but never around musicians. Maybe I have watched to many ‘rockumentaries’, but I was a bit hesitant about what I should expect. It turns out any doubts I had were unsubstantiated.

Our Ride Manager, Danny, picked the guys up at their hotel and brought them out. I was introduced to the band in our coaster gift shop. My first impression was how polite everyone was. They were in good spirits and waited patiently while we finished our safety checks and prepared the coaster. As we got everyone in their sleds I was really hoping they would love the ride as much as we do. My answer was quick and definitive. Before I could see the guys coming down the hill, I could hear them coming down the hill. They sounded just like many of our other guests throughout the season, happy and excited. They got to the bottom and could not wait to try it again. We let them know they could go faster if they went together on a sled and the results of that ride were spectacular. https://www.instagram.com/p/BokDjPGn0fM/?taken-by=askingalexandria

I had the impression that until that moment the band was a bit doubtful about how much fun they could have in South Dakota. After that, we both had a chance to loosen up and enjoy a beautiful Fall day in the Black Hills. We shot some Zombies and Werewolves, gave them their first experience on a zip ride and took them through the cave.

At one point I heard one band member say that this was his favorite day-off of their entire tour, possibly of any of their tours. After one encore ride on the coaster, the day was over and they were off to thrill thousands of more people. For me, it was a great feeling to give some great entertainers an exciting show.
